The Confusion Before the Clarity
“Let’s be honest—when I first got into the BTS Universe Time Loop saga, my initial feeling wasn’t awe or heartbreak. It was confusion.”

Like everyone, I first noticed something was happening in the music videos. There was definitely a clear connection and some kind of storyline behind it but I couldn’t quite figure it out. As a new army, I hadn’t heard about the BU yet or theories or anything else, I just enjoyed the story at face value, the images and the music. But it definitely left me with a feeling of sadness and unease. So I had to dig deeper and found The Notes and fan theories.
How did you feel when you first realised there was more to the BTS music videos than just pretty faces and amazing dance routines? I should have realised when I saw big hits tagline – healing through music – but when you first find BTS, it’s often all smiles and laughter and getting to know the members in the “real world” but the messages, the tone and the feelings they share and create outside of this, are one the most amazing and important things for me as ARMY. They make you feel, and question and grow.
Seokjin: Caretaker, Victim, Unwilling Hero

We meet all the members across varying time lines in the music videos, notes, the intros and the WEBTOON. Each character brings something different and unique and you can almost feel connected to them all in one way or another as the story/ history can feel familiar. The relationships/ friendship as a group is the overriding connection and creates a deep bond with the reader. But from the very outset, you know Jin has a special role in this universe.
He is in a constant loop of trying to save these old and special friends often from themselves but he’s also trying to save himself at the same time. He is trying to fix something but he doesn’t really understand how it is broken.

For me, “He’s trying to solve a problem without knowing the question.” He feels responsible, guilty, confused, and alone. He doesn’t see himself as a hero—but he is one.
“I think he’s a hero, but unwillingly—because he doesn’t see himself that way.”
The BTS Universe Time Loop Itself – The Endless April 11
The feeling of almost changing something every time must be a constant heartbreak for Jin. He is the only one that really remembers, we will get to why that statement might not be 100% accurate later but for now, he feels alone in his endeavours and everytime the loop resets, Jin alone feels the failure, heartbreak and has to keep reimagining the tragedies happening to his friends. The repeated heartbreak of “not this time”, must be hard and many people would give up, but he can’t do that to himself or his friends.
Jungkook’s story is a heartbreaking story, I am still not 100% sure I understand the whole story behind it. I do feel like there is a Jin implied involvement in Jungkooks story. I know there will be people out there who understand completely shouting at the screens right now but I’m still not sure I fully understand what is happening. Is Jin behind some of jungkooks accidents? Is he just seeing it? I am so very confused. But if he is, that would explain a lot of the guilt.
Yoongi’s fire and storyline raise a lot of questions for me. He lost his mum, he is clearly lonely. He had this strong group of friends and now feels like he has lost those too. But is his story queer-coded? I sometimes get the feeling in the videos that he isn’t sure about himself or his feelings (the character he plays not Yoongi himself) Is it more than just loneliness from losing connections with his friends? Is it about one in particular? He has some mental health issues and is quietly unraveling. But can anyone save him if he doesn’t want to save himself? Does his issues go further back than the time loop implies?
Why have I talked about those two characters specifically? One of the most emotionally charged dynamics in the BTS Universe time loop, for me, is between Yoongi and Jungkook. I know we’re talking about the characters here, not the real people—but their story within the BU feels heavy with emotion, especially when it comes to that fight. It’s raw, painful, and loaded with a sense of betrayal and heartbreak. You can feel the weight of everything that’s left unsaid.
I’ve often wondered if their relationship goes deeper than friendship—not necessarily romantic in a confirmed way, but intimate in an emotional sense that blurs boundaries. There’s something about the way they fight, the way they hurt each other, that feels more intense than with the others. It’s layered. But I also question whether I’m reading too much into it—whether it’s just my lens as a Western viewer. Maybe they’re simply very close, like brothers. Maybe that’s all it is.

Part of what makes it complicated is how little context we’re given about the cause of the fight. We see the fallout, the pain, but not the spark. That space invites interpretation. Was it just frustration and miscommunication, or something deeper?
Yoongi, in particular, feels very queer-coded to me in the BU. Not overtly, but through his emotional complexity, his solitude, and the way he connects—or struggles to connect—with others. There’s so much longing in his story. If he does have deeper feelings, whether for Jungkook or simply for understanding himself, that would only add to the weight he carries. His story starts with his family – his father is distant and his mother died tragically when he was a child. But that abandonment clearly shaped him.
Jungkook’s story, again is rooted in abandonment, so maybe they are close because they have similar stories. Jungkook’s dad abandoned him when he was young and his mother neglects him for her new family. As the boys begin to grow apart, he seems to lose his place. Someone goes to America, others drift away, and suddenly he’s alone again. Whatever happened between him and Yoongi—whether it was emotional, romantic, or just a fracturing of trust—it leaves him feeling utterly isolated. That loneliness becomes a thread through his entire arc, and possibly what pushes him to such a heartbreaking decision later.
But I’m aware, too, that we have to view all of this through the lens of Korean culture. In the West, we might read their emotional closeness as romantic tension, but Korea has very different norms around friendship and affection—especially same-gender relationships. Skinship is common, emotional closeness is encouraged between male friends, and yet at the same time, queerness is still highly taboo in much of society. There’s a huge tension between how freely affection is expressed, and how deeply identity is suppressed.

So maybe Yoongi and Jungkook’s relationship is a deeply emotional friendship. Maybe it’s a subtle, unspoken love. Maybe it’s something that even they don’t fully understand. And maybe that’s the point. Maybe what we’re seeing is a reflection of love in its many forms: brotherhood, guilt, longing, grief—and the ache of a bond that breaks without ever fully being named.
All the characters appear to have fears around abandonment, loneliness and guilt.
So many theories and questions abound that we are asking as readers, imagine how Jin feels. He is constantly asking these questions and trying to save his friends.

“Every time you think something might change, it resets. That’s the heartbreak.”
The world they know is falling apart, his friends are unraveling before him and he keeps trying to help and every time he fails and can’t do anything. The helpless he must feel is insane but he keeps carrying on and trying anyway.
Is He Doing It for Them, or for Himself?
I think with everything in life there is a blurred line between guilt and love, doing soemthing for oneself and for others. Knowing what the right thing to do is and actually doing it are two very different things.
“You can never be truly altruistic.” Although Jin clearly cares about his friends, and wants to help them. He also carries a lot of guilt from the high school incident. He looks to carry a lot of internal pain.
He wants to save them, yes—but also wants to be the one who doesn’t fail them again. This constant drive to save them, ease his own guilt and not fail, drives him to keep on doing what he is doing. But he hasn’t yet stopped and asked why is this happening. Why isn’t what he is doing working? What could he do to improve the situation? Maybe it’s not all about him saving them. Maybe they have to help save themselves.

I think he is trying to take all of this on himself and hasn’t stopped to ask why haven’t they done anything to help themselves before now. The issues are deeper than what is happening on that one day. He needs to look at the bigger picture and see his friends and himself in a different light, they are victims are circumstances and they can all be hero’s.
What do you think?
What Would You Do in a Time Loop?
I would do anything to save my kids. I’d sacrifice my own life and my own happiness to see them safe, happy and well. But, ideally I would like us all to work it out and fix it together. As a family, as a unit. With five people in my family, we might all be trying to solve different five different problems so it’s never gonna work out for all of us. We need to come together, talk, figure out the question and then look together to find the answer. That’s what Jin doesn’t understand yet: he can’t save them alone.
“I don’t think it’s about saving them one by one—I think he needs to bring them together and let them talk, be honest, and heal together.”
Jin’s journey is one of pain, love, and eventual surrender. He keeps going and never gives up. He loves his friends and even after some time, he still feels this deep connection to them and wants to save them and return to happier times. This is overarching drive and it’s beautiful but sad. As you will see, time just keeps repeating and he has change something to make a difference.
“What would you relive if you had the chance to fix it?”
Disclaimer – I have no idea what I am actually talking about, this is all my theories and ideas! I still don’t think I fully understand the BTS Universe time loop saga but I love to try to work it out and it makes me feel connected to our world, their world and to the music.
