A love so Beautiful

A love so sweet.

I know what you’re thinking, that’s a Roy Orbison song not BTS. And you would be correct but A love so Beautiful is also the name of the KDrama I am currently watching.

A young Korean couple standing together, the boy in front of the girl in Korean school uniform. The girl is clapping her hands together like she is excited and the boy looks confused. In front of them is Netflix A love so beautiful.

Or sort of rewatching but in Korean. I originally watched this drama a few years ago back when I was still trying to find my Asian drama happy place. I do still love a Thai or Chinese Drama but Korean is my favourite. I actually really do like the Chinese version.

The actress is also the main lead in Meteor Garden which is also another version of another of my favourite Kdramas Boys over Flowers… can you see a theme occurring. πŸ™ˆ If you want to know where this theme lead me, check out my Drama Showdown post.

Where am I now in the Korean A Love so Beautiful?

I am currently on episode 15, and clearly I know where this series is leading as I kind of already know the plot but in my defence they do sometimes change it up a little and go their own way so I’m still enjoying how it differs and how it’s the same to other incarnations of A love so beautiful.

What do I like so far…

I love the actors! They are young and sweet and have a good future ahead of them in kdramas I think. The main male lead is picture perfect Korean standards for handsomeness, but he also plays the aloof and kind of standoffish character with heart and warmth even though he isn’t meant to be so warm and friendly. I like that. Sometimes when they are too harsh, aloof and hands off, it makes me really question why the main female leads like him. But you can see he is sweet to her and is a good person and that’s what she loves about him.

Also side characters, you know I love a side character that deserves their own show! The best friends in this one are adorable and I would definitely like to see more of them.

And second male lead 😭 why are they always so special? When you know they aren’t going to get picked, which means they will be sad???? I want someone to come along and sweep Dae-Sung off his feet. He deserves so much more than second lead syndrome!!!!

What could I skip?

I adore some of the the teachers in this version and some are just weird. I could do without the weird teacher that walks around with a cane. It’s so old school L, out of place and I don’t even see him teach so what is he even doing there.

The girl bully storyline was also really random and sort of didn’t come to anything, she was there and was kind of irksome but didn’t really become the evil doer but was more of an annoyance for a little bit.

And finally, the whole student fancying the school nurse, I know it’s not reciprocal but it’s still icky! πŸ™ˆ I know it happens, hell I definitely had crushes on inappropriate people but now as an adult, it really gives me the ick to see it in school dramas! I know everyone has these crushes and it’s all part of growing up and at least they didn’t actually have a relationship like in some other dramas (pretty little liars I’m talking to you) so it’s ok grand scheme but it still makes me 😬.

I really hope she starts to see Jin Hwan in a beer light, he’s adorable if a little nutty and needy but he’s still super sweet.

No rating yet – a love so beautiful or a love doomed

I am excited to see if this blooms into a love so beautiful or rots like an old piece of fruit!

Why not join me in watching? You can catch up the whole series on Netflix.

Drama Showdown πŸ₯Š

Battle of the versions

Let’s get ready to Rrrrruuummmbbblleee!!!!!

Contender’s are you ready???

This is Drama Showdown, where your favourite love stories go head-to-head across borders!

This round, three iconic dramas β€” A Love So Beautiful, Boys Over Flowers, and Playful Kiss β€” face off as Korea, Thailand, and China each bring their own twist to the same story.

I am currently deep in the Korean version of a love so beautiful! So my watch hasn’t quite finished but I know enough! But if you want to keep up with my review and how I might chance my mind, check out my drama reviews here.

Who nailed the chemistry? Who brought the chaos? And which country will walk away with the ultimate crown? πŸ‘‘

Let’s find out.

Contenders β€” are you ready???

Drama Showdown

πŸ₯Š Round 1: Chemistry

Question: Did the glances, tension, and comfort feel realβ€”or like a bad acting exercise?

πŸ’–Β A Love So Beautiful

πŸ‡¨πŸ‡³Β  Sweet, believable, and gentleβ€”but a little too polite. Shen Yue carries most of the emotion while Jiang Chen stares from afar. Cute and nostalgic, more warm tea than whisky!

πŸ‡°πŸ‡·Β  Youthful spark with just enough flirty tension to make you root for them. The balance of heart and humour keeps it alive.

πŸ‡ΉπŸ‡Β  Softer, slower, and more matureβ€”like first love after homework. Dreamy but a touch distant.

πŸ’Β Boys Over Flowers

πŸ‡¨πŸ‡³Β  Dylan Wang’s chaos meets Shen Yue’s charmβ€”messy but magnetic. Even the second-lead spark feels real.

πŸ‡°πŸ‡·Β  Iconic? Absolutely. Romantic? Not quite. Lee Min-ho shines, but Jan-di’s spark never lights the fuse for me.

πŸ‡ΉπŸ‡Β  Real, awkward, and humanβ€”two teens figuring out feelings rather than fairy-tale perfection.

πŸ’‹Β Playful Kiss

πŸ‡¨πŸ‡³Β  Light and bouncy; sincerity shines through the silliness.

πŸ‡°πŸ‡·Β  Starts stiff, ends sweetβ€”classic slow burn payoff.

πŸ‡ΉπŸ‡Β  Flirty and natural, the most believable of the three.

What are the current standings for the drama showdown round one?

Drama Showdown

πŸ₯Š Round 2: Second-Lead Syndrome

Because sometimes the wrong boy steals the right girl’s heart.

A Love So Beautiful

πŸ‡¨πŸ‡³ Bo Song is the perfect nice guyβ€”quiet loyalty, zero pressure, 100 % heartbreak.

πŸ‡°πŸ‡· Woo Dae-seong is patient and pure, the human version of a warm hug.

πŸ‡ΉπŸ‡ Kind, protective, and just there when it matters most.

Boys Over Flowers

πŸ‡¨πŸ‡³ Lei (Darren Chen) makes heartbreak poetic.

πŸ‡°πŸ‡· Ji-hoo (Kim Hyun-joong) is comforting but never burns for her.

πŸ‡ΉπŸ‡ Ren (Win Metawin) gives quiet sadness with real depth.

Playful Kiss

πŸ‡¨πŸ‡³ Ah Jin is funny and emotionally openβ€”the dream boyfriend prototype.

πŸ‡°πŸ‡· Bong Joon-gu, loud and loyal, defines β€œgolden retriever energy.” Super happy he gets a happy ending.

πŸ‡ΉπŸ‡ King is caring and grounded but can’t outshine the main pair.

What are the current standings for the drama showdown round two?

Drama Showdown

πŸ₯Š Round 3: Chaos, Charm & Friendship

Because no drama survives without its chaos gremlins.

A Love So Beautiful

πŸ‡¨πŸ‡³ Pleasant classmates, but no scene-stealers.

πŸ‡°πŸ‡· Friends bring warmth and mischiefβ€”real friendship energy.

πŸ‡ΉπŸ‡ Balanced humour, strong heart.

Boys Over Flowers

πŸ‡¨πŸ‡³ Bananas, bromance, and background dramaβ€”chaotic perfection.

πŸ‡°πŸ‡· Iconic F4 energy; chaos wrapped in Gucci scarves.

πŸ‡ΉπŸ‡ Tighter cast, every character counts.

Playful Kiss

πŸ‡¨πŸ‡³ Families steal the spotlight, sometimes cartoonish but cute.

πŸ‡°πŸ‡· Comedy and heart in equal measureβ€”pure comfort.

πŸ‡ΉπŸ‡ More personality-driven, less slapstick.

What are the current standings for the drama showdown round three?

Drama Showdown

πŸ₯Š Round 4: OST (Vibes and Earworms)

Because the right song can break your heart before the dialogue does.

A Love So Beautiful

πŸ‡¨πŸ‡³ Sweet background tunesβ€”pretty but forgettable.

πŸ‡°πŸ‡· Cute, wholesome, classic comfort.

πŸ‡ΉπŸ‡ Pop-indie sparkle that sets its own mood.

Boys Over Flowers

πŸ‡¨πŸ‡³ Catchy but overplayedβ€”brainwashing level: expert.Β

πŸ‡°πŸ‡· Almost Paradise. Enough said.

πŸ‡ΉπŸ‡ Cinematic and sleekβ€”fits the emotional tone perfectly.

Playful Kiss

πŸ‡¨πŸ‡³ Energetic pop, light and cheerful.

πŸ‡°πŸ‡· Soft, sugary nostalgia from the 2010 era.

πŸ‡ΉπŸ‡ Bright and heartfeltβ€”bonus points for Mike’s vocals.

What are the current standings for the drama showdown round four?

Drama Showdown

πŸ₯Š Round 5: Cringe Factor

Because every K-drama needs at least one β€œwait, what?” moment.

A Love So Beautiful

πŸ‡¨πŸ‡³ Too many heart eyes, not enough self-respect.

πŸ‡°πŸ‡· Teacher with a cane. That’s it. That’s the tweet.

πŸ‡ΉπŸ‡ Surprisingly grounded for a high-school drama.

Boys Over Flowers

πŸ‡¨πŸ‡³ Rooftop brooding and mystery punishmentsβ€”legendary nonsense.

πŸ‡°πŸ‡· Helicopter finale. Iconic chaos.

πŸ‡ΉπŸ‡ Still in school looking like 25 year olds? Sure. But cleaner overall.

Playful Kiss

πŸ‡¨πŸ‡³ Self-aware goofiness, not too painful.

πŸ‡°πŸ‡· Proudly cringe, gloriously dated, pure fun.

πŸ‡ΉπŸ‡ Sweet and modernβ€”smooth delivery.

What are the current standings for the drama showdown round five?

Drama Showdown

πŸ₯Š Round 6: Rewatch Value

Because some dramas are comfort food, others are one-night stands.

A Love So Beautiful

πŸ‡¨πŸ‡³ Still sweet and nostalgicβ€”a cosy rewatch.

πŸ‡°πŸ‡· One-and-done, cute but light.

πŸ‡ΉπŸ‡ Warm, polished, and worth a revisit.

Boys Over Flowers

πŸ‡¨πŸ‡³ A joy to share and rewatch forever.

πŸ‡°πŸ‡· The gold-standard comfort watch.

πŸ‡ΉπŸ‡ Modern, stylish, still aging into a classic.

Playful Kiss

πŸ‡¨πŸ‡³ Short, sweet, perfect weekend binge.

πŸ‡°πŸ‡· Fluffy, familiar, endlessly rewatchable.

πŸ‡ΉπŸ‡ Feels fresh every timeβ€”modern charm meets classic comfort.

What are the current standings for the drama showdown round six?

Bonus points for the Chinese version of Boys over flowers – Meteor Garden- for their truly beautiful dvd! It is sooo pretty and I think I need it. You can get a copy here, not cheap but oh so beautiful!Β
What does all this means for the scores? Who will be crowned the first winner of the Drama Showdown?

🏁 The Final Bell

Six rounds. Three countries. Countless swoons.

πŸ’₯ Korea brought the nostalgia, the feels, the blanket kicks.

πŸ’₯ China delivered heart, cuteness and an adorable longing for first loves.

πŸ’₯ Thailand brought the warmth, chemistry, and modern magic.

✨ Overall Winner: Korea!

μ•ˆλ…•ν•˜μ„Έμš” readers! Learning Korean!

μ•ˆλ…•ν•˜μ„Έμš”! I missed music video Monday and it was bank holiday and I’ve got completed confused with my days! But instead I’m bringing you an update on my Korean classes and a lovely little experience from work today.

An image of a hangup practice book with the Korean word for hello - μ•ˆλ…•ν•˜μ„Έμš” on the cover.

I had my Korean lesson today with my private tutor, that I have been doing for some months now. Every other week or as my tutor tells me λ‹€λ‹€μŒμ£Ό (which means next week). Although I was a little late as I forgot it was Tuesday. Do bank holidays mess with anyone else or is it just me and my adhd brain causing issues???

Why I am learning Korean?

I began learning Korean because I fell in love with BTS and slowly fell in love with Kdrama, the culture and everything in between. I love to learn and have always wanted to learn another language and even though it can be hard and frustrating. It’s also really rewarding and I’ve picked it up quicker than I would be thought so I’m happy.

It’s been a fair few months now and although I sometimes still feel out of my depth and like I’ve learned nothing but when I think about what I’ve learnt and review my lessons I realise how far I’ve come in my language learning journey and then today a surprising thing happened and I truly appreciated how much I’ve learnt and how much more confident I am.

Pink army time banner from the bts Wembley concert in June 2019 that says in Korean νž˜λ“€ 땐 μš°λ¦¬κ°€ ν•¨κ»˜ κ°ˆμ–΄μ˜¨ 길을 λŒμ•„λ΄ which translates to when times are hard, look at the road we walked together.
My original ambition was to learn Hangul just so I could read what this said myself!

Originally my ambition was to be able to read my army time banner from Wembley, and then as I got more and more into dramas I wanted to be able to understand some of what I was hearing. And slowly I’ve fallen so much for the culture and really want to learn a new language for my own development that I naturally progressed to taking it more and more seriously. I do remember back in November 2023 when BTS enlistment was fresh and new and scary, I said I wanted to be on my way to learning Korean by the time they got out. I didn’t specifically say this goal out loud on my post but here you can see me mention my ambition to learn: https://heartsandseoul.co.uk/2023/11/11/time-flies/

Real life practice

I had the lovely surprise of chatting with a colleague at work today (who is Korean) and she was so kind and impressed with my speaking and reading Korean and it gave my confidence such a boost! She has kindly offered to practice speaking Korean with me sometimes. It gave me a huge boost and reminded me why I love learning Korean so much.

Before I started class I already knew the Korean alphabet Hangul and how it works, and I had a pretty good grasp of reading Hangul so my Korean teacher did have to have a redo of my teaching plan as I perhaps undersold how much of a beginner I was. Maybe slightly more than a beginner but not by much. So my first few lessons were setting a routine, learning some basics and building on this.

Now my lessons are structured very similarly every week to build familiarity and bring speech practise in as much as possible. We always start with hello and goodbye and some short sentences on what I’ve been doing for the last two weeks as speaking practice. Then we move on to the lesson plan for the week, usually going over and reviewing on work sheets or looking at new ones.

This week’s focus

This week we completed my worksheet on time expressions and moved onto purpose and intention – looking at sentences like β€œright after” or β€œduring” β€œwhile” and β€œfor”.

A pink background with spring flowers in a rainbow shape above and beyond hangul (Korean) and English writing.
In Korean it says μ–΄μ œ 5μ‹œκ°„ λ™μ•ˆμΌν–ˆμ–΄μš”
And then underneath translates to yesterday i worked for 5 hours.

The hardest part for me might be my memory but the second hardest part is trying to think in Korean rather than English grammatical structures.

For this sentence, you have to think:

Yesterday – μ–΄μ œ

5 hours – 5 (λ‹€μ„―)μ‹œκ°„

For – λˆμ•ˆ (this was the article I was learning)

I worked – μΌν–ˆμ–΄μš”

Instead of: yesterday, I worked for 5 hours.

Once you get the hang of it and if you practice it becomes easier but I dont always have the time for studying and I can’t easily practice speaking. Which is why today was so great, because my colleague said she would be happy to get together and chat in Korean 😍

I hoped you liked learning about my Korean classes, I will try to update more regularly on what I am doing.

Learning a language can feel slow sometimes, or like you aren’t getting very far but moments like this make it all feel worth it. If you’re learning Korean (or any language!), I’d love to hear about your journey too.

Give Them Their Own Show Already: KDrama Side Characters Who Stole My Heart

We all love a good K-drama lead, but sometimes it’s the kdrama side characters, the funny best friends, the quiet souls with hidden pain, or the ones who love fiercely in the background, who completely steal the show. Give them their own show already!

I wish I could see more of their own stories, spin-offs, or just a little more love.

Hotel Del Luna: So Many Untold Stories

A Hotel Full of Stories We’ll Never Know All The Details For…

Hotel Del Luna had such a rich world filled with ghosts, secrets, and second chances. So many amazing kdrama side characters. Although there are glimpses of the hotel staff’s past lives,  I would’ve loved to have seen more of their backstory and more than that, I would’ve liked to to see what happened to them in their new lives.

I know why we didn’t see as much of Junseok Noh because we needed him to move on to continue with the main story but I really liked his character and I wish we could have seen more of him. I loved his relationship with Manwol.

And don’t even get me started on Sanchez. Sweet, sincere, totally loyalβ€”and yet barely given a story, and the story he got was heart wrenching. I still don’t quite understand the whole β€œItalian” bit, but I would’ve happily watched a whole mini-drama about his heartbreak, healing, and maybe even running a fancy ghost-friendly restaurant.

Business Proposal: The Kdrama Side Characters That Stole the Show

Cha Sung-hoon Deserved His Own Drama

Don’t get me wrongβ€”I adored Business Proposal. The cast was brilliant and the main couple were sweet. I loved the plot, I think the setup Shin Hari playing YoungSeo was hilarious and probably not realistic but brilliant. I liked how much of the hijinks were just misunderstandings.

But let’s be honest: Secretary Cha and Young-seo stole every scene they were in. Their slow-burn chemistry, the unexpected drama with her family, the will they/ won’t they appeal, the non stop running into each other, almost like fate was beautiful.

Kdrama side characters from Business proposal - image shows Secretary Cha and Young Seo fighting over the drink they like from the store

But if I am being really really honest, I would watch a series with just secretary Cha with a side character Kang Tae Moo, just for the hilarious moments they shared. My all time favourite hilarious moment is where the grandfather thinks they’re datingβ€”β€œEven if I liked men. He’s not really my style!”—absolute gold.

You cannot beat a good bromance!

I could’ve watched ten more episodes of just SungHoon and YoungSeo, awkwardly navigating their feelings and going on fancy little grocery dates, get them their own show already or perhaps more hilarious would be a show dedicated to his bromance with TaeMoo.

If like me you want more of everything to do with this drama, then did you know it’s based on a webtoon. Which you can buy here in the uk??? 😍

Love Next Door: The Soft Romance We Deserved To See More Of

Let Kdrama side characters Jeong Mo-eum & Kang Dan-ho Have Their Moment!

I really enjoyed Love Next Door, especially the main storyline, I love a good friends to lovers trope. I especially love when it surprises both parties, the obliviousness of some k-drama couples is just phenomenal but in a real cute, adorable way. I think this was such a good show to watch after a bout of very intense thrillers. But my number one contenders for side character supremacy has to go to one of the best side couples, as I completely fell for Jeong Mo-eum and Kang Dan-ho.

Mo-eum was such a passionate, driven character, and Dan-ho brought this sweet steadiness that balanced her out perfectly. But just when they were starting to build something beautiful… she had to leave.

I know she’s going to do amazing things, she has worked so hard and truly deserved to get that spot, but it made me sad we didn’t get more time with them together. Especially after she’d grown so close to the daughterβ€”it felt like we were just scratching the surface of something really special. I genuinely would’ve watched an entire series about their growing relationship from the very beginning. I think it was such a heart wrenching and beautiful relationship, with so much depth and possibility. I really wanted to see more from them. Get them their own show already! I think everyone and his neighbour wants a mudflat man tshirt – you can absolutely have your own!

All the tik toks and YouTube videos I’ve watched, I’m not the only one who wanted to see more from them.

I did adore the end where he was the gift to be sent to the South Pole! But I want to see it! I want to see them happy raising the girl and maybe more babies when she’s saved the world in her own way!

So, who did I miss? Who do you think deserves their own show? Who reigns supreme as your number one Kdrama side characters?

Volunteering with the KBCE

A few months ago, I saw a post for a British based Korean not for profit organisation Korean British culture Exchange (kbce) looking for volunteers to help with making social media posts on specific subjects. I put my name forward or Kdramas β€˜cos you know I love a bit of drama if it’s Korean! ☺️

Ever the overachiever, I sent in my CV and not only did they ask if I would help with posting about a kdrama every other week they also asked if I could put some of my other skills to the test and give up some of my time to support KBCE in other ways! I gladly said yes and that’s what I’ve been doing for a few months and it’s been an amazing experience.

I’m currently helping with general administration as well as supporting event planning and I’m helping to run the social media accounts, it’s all been a wonderful learning curve for me putting my transferable skills into new activities and today was the first in one of the events I’ve been helping with!

I took the family along to the KBCE East and South East Asia mid-autumn festival at Kingston, supported by Kingston Council, Kingston Beats and Kingston Chinese Association, amongst others and it was a brilliant day!

Market Hall at the Ancient Market Kingston setting up for the KBCE ESEA 2024.
Setting up for the day!

The whole day was a wonderful first experience for me! It was so wonderful getting to see a positive and beautiful display of celebrating East and South East Asia, especially as I volunteer for the KBCE and I was a small part of bringing it together.

I have to say the most loveliest part was meeting all the other wonderful people I’ve been getting to know through team chats and zoom calls – but in person. But also seeing all the amazing volunteers giving up time to make the day extra special! Everyone was friendly and the whole day was just wonderful!

Lovely lady at the costume stand helping Luna get dressed in a Hanbok ☺️

We experienced badgemaking with the wonderful team for Stanley Picker gallery and Dorich House museum, and I really want to come back to visit when they have the β€œunder construction” exhibit by Takeshi Hayatsu up and running and I really want to see some more of the Elizabeth Keith project! I’ll share more about that another day for now if you’re interested check out their website.

We also had some yummy Korean food, louen ate two portions of dumplings and wouldn’t share, Nick and Luna had gimbap and we all shared some teriyaki chicken and I had some beautiful Buchujeon (chive pancake) which I also didn’t want to share.πŸ™ˆπŸ˜‚

I don’t have any photos because as I’ve said before I’d make a terrible food blogger as I’m always so excited to eat it I never remember to stop and take pictures first πŸ€¦πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ (this might be one of the only times I ever got the food pic and it was yummy lockdown korean food)

Next up both kids tried on traditional Korean and Chinese clothing kindly donated for the day by the KBCE and the KCA and it was amazing and sweet! Louen looked handsome in a purple hanbok but Luna still takes the prize for the cutest award because everyone wanted to help her get dressed and wanted a photo! She was beautiful in her hanbok.

Finally, we thoroughly enjoyed the acts on stage. The musical kids were adorable and very brave to stand up onstage and sing for everyone, the kpop cover acts were incredible and inspiring. (We could with a little less for Luna though as she already dance 5 days a week, now she wants to take learning kpop covers seriously, let me know if you find an extra day of the week for her to fit this in please). Dream maker was awesome, they looked amazing and I really enjoyed it. Sadly I am not coordinated enough to join and it’s a little far to come but thanks for the kind man for thinking I looked even remotely fit enough to give it a go πŸ™ˆπŸ˜‚

Me and Luna were especially excited to see Team Hye and they did not disappoint such amazingly talented young people! Truly brilliant!

The Chinese traditional acts were beautiful, the dancing and singing was simply stunning and the martial art display was breath taking. Luna yelped a couple of times.

I had never heard of Frank Chickens but in planning the event I had to do some research and honestly I think I would have loved them back in the 80’s had I been old enough, I think they would definitely been something I would have been interested in πŸ˜‚ and they also did not disappoint. In fact they were a highlight! So entertaining and full of energy and I couldn’t help but smile and dance around as we watched.

The whole day was wonderfully run and we felt very honoured to be invited and to have had a small part in helping the success of the day. On to the next one and I cannot wait!

Drama Free Fridays – The Guardians

I don’t want no drama … unless its of the Asian Drama TV show variety. 😁

I watched this drama a while ago but in my quest to introduce dramas to my mum, I have been rewatching some old favourites to pull her in. (It worked – she’s fully in! 😊)

So, this weeks review is The Guardians. I am not a huge fan of spoilers so my reviews are not of the usual type. I just like to give a brief overview, explain why I loved it without spoilers and hope that you are excited enough to check it out for yourself and give it a go. Opinions should be formed on your own without influence from others. Ill happily lead you down the wonderful path of Kdrama and point you to some of my faves but we are all different and like different things for a good reason. The world would be a boring place if we all liked the same things. Never be scared to disagree with me and to point me the direction of your favorites. I am happy to watch and take recommendations from everyone.

Key from SHINee

When I fell down the Kpop hole, one of the first groups I went looking for was SHINee because I had seen Minho in a couple of dramas so I was aware of them even though i had avoided kpop for a long time (thank you BTS for dragging me into this beautiful wonderland). Anyway, not gonna lie the main reason I started this drama was Key. He is one if my SHINee biases and I couldnt pass on seeing him act and when I saw his beautiful crimped hair it was a yes from me. I didn’t much care if the storyline turned out rubbish πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈπŸ˜ƒ

Look at the cuteness overload 😍

Turns out I really enjoyed the storyline and all the characters and I even discovered some more drama biases.

In England, this Kdrama is called The Guardians but over in Korea it is Lookout. An exciting detective/vigilante thriller with lovelable and kickass characters really bring this story to life.

The main plot focuses on young mum and detective Jo Soo Ji. Initially a successful but struggling detective, disaster strikes and she finds herself on the run joining up with a band of vigilante heroes taking on the injustices of the world whilst trying to seek justice for herself, her family and her new little family made up of a young computer hacker and a young girl suffering from something similar to agoraphobia.

Jo Soo Ji leads the way as an amazing, interesting and badass female lead. I think I fell in love with her a little bit. She suffered a fair amount in a short period of time but was still quite upbeat and carried on seeking justice and trying to do the right thing. She had moments where she struggled as would anyone in her situation but on the whole she is an amazing real life hero.

Jang Do Han, well where do I even start with him. Is he an anti-hero? A villain? A stuck up phony bordering the fence do you never quite know where his loyalties lie or all of the above? And does any of this matter and we love him still regardless. Answer for me is yes!!!

Every single character in this made me fall in love with them but the two main leads and the other members of the vigilante team made this series what it was. The storyline itself was intriguing and kept me watching and guessing and hiding and laughing. It is everything I want in the drama, but it is the characters themselves that really make the drama. And when you discover the villain of the series, even they are incredible. Crazy and creepy and made me hide behind my hands and the pure villainous heart they must have but still oh so watchable. I cannot rave about this programme enough!

Not only are the characters individually so interesting and portrayed so well. The relationships between the leads, the secondary characters and even the extras are all amazing. I could talk for hours on this but I won’t because I really think it is something you should witness for yourself.

The interaction between these two, although somewhat tense on occasion is sometimes funny, sometimes endearing but always edge of your seat stuff. Do you they tolerate each other? Is there some honest feeling hidden beneath the surface. What are their true feelings? For a thriller with a twisted plot, the interactions between these two left me feeling dizzy, happy and sometimes frustrated.

What started out as a relationship similar to that of siblings, as they argued and name called each other. Picking out and belittling each others quirks and issues but with a loving, friendly vibe soon grew into something more. The budding friendship is often hindered by the fact no one quite knows what Seo Bo Mi looks out or where she is or her history or anything. Whilst Kyung Soo is quite open and honest about his life and he helps in a more physical way. He is still quite guarded and you can feel his sadness even though he tries to stay bright and upbeat which completely contradicts Bo Mis negative and somewhat dry sense of the world, but somehow it works and there interactions are some of the most beautiful and endearing parts of the show.

Overall, the action packed thriller taking on political injustices every day at the same time as seeking justice for themselves, these everyday heros soon became some of my favourite characters and I couldn’t wait to introduce them to my mum and I would recommend to anyone else I know to give it a watch. I would happily watch it again, in fact I might. 😊

10/10 and would highly recommend. πŸ‘Œ

Side-tracked but Kpop version

I have to send you guys my apologies…

But first some background:- Me and my friend have a term for when we are supposed to be chatting to them, texting or arranging something but we don’t as we forget or get distracted. We call it Hobi-tracked because were both Hobi bias and its usually because we’ve been sucked into a Pinterest / Youtube session of watching all things Hobi.

A big shout out to Kala – who is part of the reason I get so Hobi-tracked, we both feed each others obsessions! πŸ˜‚ Come on who wouldn’t be side tracked by his adorable-ness.

I have started to write some posts on BTS member profiles, a few more drama reviews, and introductions to some of the other kpop groups I have been discovering. But whilst discovering these other groups has been amazing and I’ve loved falling deeper into the Kpop hole, it also means I have a lot of content I can feast upon.

F2F9AA5B-E216-4FEF-9142-4F32A06C0916.JPG

Which leads me back to the apology, I have fallen into a well of music videos, VLives, interviews, live performances for so many new groups, I haven’t actually done much writing, but I have down plenty of research for my posts. πŸ˜‚

Last week I was Monsta X -tracked, I may have watched their cover of Bruno Mars Versace on the Floor an unhealthy amount. I loved that tune anyway, but seeing Kiyhun, Minhyuk, Jooheon and the others perform it, was just …😍 wow! Monsta X are still quite new for me so I have been having fun listening to new music and watching new videos, but because of all this research, I haven’t had much chance to write.

The week before I had a very SHINee week as I was missing the guys, as all but one member is currently serving in the military – just leaving Taemin to fly solo and carry the SHINee torch. He is rocking it and I am loving some of his solo stuff, but I still miss the guys so I had a very SHINee youtube session and ended up watching videos all night and didn’t have chance to write again. You might be noticing a pattern soon. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

This weekend seems to be a GOT7 and BtoB weekend as we’ve had a lot of playlists on this weekend with both groups on and I’ve been buying myself some new albums of theirs. Also, with GOT7 hopefully (fingers crossed we heres something soon) coming to London in October, I’ve been getting very excited by this.

Basically I am so sorry I haven’t had much chance to write my journey in to the Kpop hole, I really want to share it with you, but I’ve just been having so much fun actually enjoying falling into it. I will write more soon I promise. I have started my BTS profiles and I have some fun Top 10 blog posts to put up soon. And I have some exciting news regarding contributors to my blog soon too, so please keep an eye out for that.

I hope you guys are all enjoying your own journey whether it be into Kpop, music in general or anything else you have discovered recently. Embrace your likes and obsessions and show your weird! It will make your life more interesting and exciting and once you open up to allow yourself to enjoy more things, I hope you will become a happier and more confident version of you. I know I definitely have, I have also discovered some amazing new friends and become part of a huge family which is amazing in itself. Please share your wonderful stories about discovering Kpop or discovering something you love in the comments, I really want to hear all about it.

If you’ve ever been scared to share your loves/ obsessions etc, or you find people roll their eyes at you, or if you just want to feel connected to people. This is a safe place, we embrace everybody here. Whatever you love or like whether it be BTS, GOT7, TWICE or any other kpop or Kdrama, but if youre massive Harry Potter or Enid Blyton fan, come say hi and share your weird. We are a very accepting fandom over here and just love to see peoples passion and interests. Say hi and drop me a comment. πŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œ

Hopefully I will have more posts for you soon.

See you later guys!

**KDrama Review** I’m not a Robot

Welcome to my first Drama review – I have been watching Kdramas for a few years now but never thought to review them but I love them so much I want to share my insight. I am going to have to go back and watch my favourites again so I can review them, oh what a nightmare πŸ˜‚ Kidding, I rewatch my faves all the time.

Warning for you all – I don’t like “spoilers” in a review so there won’t be heavy content on the whole recap/synopsis side of things, I may give you some insight to parts I like, the characters etc but if you want a run of what happens or a play by play, this is probably not the place for you. I just would like to share my opinion and if you’ve been considering watching a kdrama and haven’t been sure, I’m hoping my reviews will encourage you to give them a go. I will talk about some parts of the shows, but not heavy on the spoilers.

I know some people are put off by the subtitles, but if you watch enough, it really does become second nature to watch and read at the same time. K-dramas can be dramatic, fluffy, cute, sweet, sensitive, dramatic and exciting and are totally worth the watch if you can get past the subtitles.

Anywho, onto my first Drama Review:

I’m not a Robot

Cutest leading couple I ever did see.
Cutest leading couple I ever did see.

Drama in one sentence: A highly Intelligent but lonely business man suffering from an allergy to humans meets and falls in love with a Robot which is actually a human pretending to be a Robot.

Honestly though, this synopsis does not give enough credit to how beautiful and emotional this series was. I wasn’t sure how I felt about a drama based around a robot at first, especially a human pretending to be a robot and another human falling in love with it. But the cast and the storyline in I’m not a robot make it so much more than that.

Aji-3 - AI robot or human playing was a robot?
Aji-3 – AI robot or human playing was a robot?

The human allergy aspect played remarkably by leading man Yoo Seung-ho  helped make the storyline much more believable. The whole thing could have been unbelievable, unrealistic and silly, but seeing how Kim Min-kyu had not had physical human contact for years and had closed himself off from the world, the whole thing became much easier to believe. I absolutely love Yoo Seung-ho, he brings a beautiful smile, an innocence and beauty to this role. If the character had been played by anyone else, I think I would have struggled to dispel all the things that could have gone wrong with a human being tricked into thinking a robot did all the things Aji 3 did, but as he is so adorable, innocent and unspoilt by human contact, it’s totally believable.

The story itself is what I’ve stated above mixed in with the usual drama trope of man meeting woman, falling for her, betrayal, anguish, hope and finally happiness all rolled into a very unique story, as we have the robot aspect to take into account. Overall, I think the plot could have been a nightmare but the leading cast made it a beautiful story, that I fell in love with.

Cast

There may be slight spoilers ahead as I do a run down of the cast / characters but only from the initial episodes as I think you should decide if you want to find out more about the series yourselves and watch the episodes. If you have seen any k-dramas before, you will undoubtedly be able to figure out how this series might go, so without many spoilers here but a little hint, here is the good, the bad and the on the fence characters in my opinion, it doesn’t mean they are always good/ bad or on the fence. This is just my opinion from the get go.

The Good

Screenshot 2019-07-28 at 18.01.38Yoo Seung-ho as Kim Min-kyu

Leading man Min-kyu is a highly intelligent business who has suffered with a terrible debilitating human allergy for the last 15 years. He has lived on his own, with only  a butler for company. He is the son of one of the founding members, a majority shareholder in the company and I want to say Financial director (?), he has earned a lot of money for the company, but has a unique way of doing business as he can’t really interact with people, although I don’t think anyone knows his issues, so people just think he is weird.

He wants to perform his military duty but cannot as his illness can cause him to die, so he is struggling internally with this. Also, within his business there is some angst, as there is always someone trying to take over businesses and using someone else to do this.

In his personal life, he is an avid collector, which is how he originally meets our leading lady. And he has been in love with an old family friend for a long time but has never made a move.

The company he owns is also in the process of buying into a small AI company, the Santa Maria team, whom have built a robot – Aji 3. A very human like Artificial Intelligent robot. He wants to test the robot and asks if he can see how she works, which is how the story begins.

If you do not fall in love with his beautiful smile and cute little ways, then well, I don’t know what, because he is fricking adorable. Every time he looks and smiles at Aji-3, oh my heart!😍

Chae Soo-bin as Jo Ji – ah and Aji 3

Leading lady Chae Soo-bin plays not one but two very exciting and interesting characters. She brings a real spark and sassiness to the robot Aji 3 – which does take a bit of suspended belief to accept that Min-kyu falls for the ruse – but if you can get over this then Soo-bin plays the part beautifully. In her main role as Ji-ah, I love her, I really do. She has this unique quality which makes her a perfect combination of adorable, sassy, interesting, hardworking and passionate.

Ji-ah lives with her brother, his heavily pregnant wife and niece as she lost her dad in her teens. She is an aspiring inventor and entrepreneur. She has made a fair few inventions but unfortunately none of them has ever taken off. Her brother at first does not seem very supportive and seems to heavily criticise her life choices. She seems to have a few various part time jobs but is on the whole a really happy and kind character. If you don’t fall for her, almost instantly you may be watching the wrong series.

One of her part time jobs, is buying rare and collectible items for people. This is how she first runs into Min-kyu, and their first meeting although memorable in some ways, is not a great start.

She is also linked to the Santa Maria team through the head professor, as he is her ex boyfriend, and he is how she is pulled into pretending to be a robot.

Santa Maria Team

consists of:

Um Ki-joon as Hong Baek-kyun. Ji-ah’s ex boyfriend and world renowned but shamed robotics professor and leader of the team. At first, I couldn’t see any potential in his character and was a little bored of him, but as the series got going, I loved how they didn’t necessarily go for the straight forward lead / second lead fights for girl. Baek-kyun genuinely wants to know how and why things went wrong with his relationship. He’s also very sweet and the more I watched, the more i realised my initial opinion of him was off.

Park Se-wan as “Pi” Angela Jin. I think she is the second in command in the team, she is highly intelligent and appears to have a lot of control over the team, making sure they stay on point and focused etc. Blatantly, and this isn’t really a spoiler as you’d have to be blind not to see it straight away, she is in love with Baek-hyun. The best part is she knows he still has feelings for Ji-ah, but she doesn’t act jealous, she doesn’t dislike Ji-ah or Baek-hyun for this though, she accepts this and does her best at work and is there for the professor regardless. She’s a really good feminine but in control of her life character.

Song Jae-ryong as “Hoktal” Kang Dong-won and Kim Min-kyu as “Ssanip” Eddie Park. I feel like these two definitely need to be talked about together, there is definite bromance going on here, and I am here for it. They’re super geeky, but super adorable. I believe they are the “comedy relief” in the series, although later on they do have some beautiful scenes, that may or may not have made me cry, a little bit. Both single, hardworking professors in robotics, they have their own little quirks they have “input” into Aji-3, which make her more human, and make these two so sweet and cute.

Secondary Characters:

Um Hyo-sup as Doctor Oh. Min-kyu doctor who has been treating him for the last 15 years, trying to help control and eventually, hopefully beat the allergy. He also seems quite close to Min-kyu.

  • Kim Ha-kyun [ko] as Butler Sung. Min-kyu butler and well at the beginning of the show, if you don’t accept the robot hoover as a friend, his companion and friend.
  • Seo Dong-won [ko] as Jo Jin-bae. Ji-ahs brother and I am not 100% sure what he does, but he also works for Min-kyu and seems important to him.
  • Lee Min-ji as Sun-hye. Ji-ahs best friend and she owns a coffee shop where the Santa Maria team starts to spend a lot of time at. May also be a romantic interest to some of the characters.
  • Yoon So-mi as Hong-ju. Jin-baes wife, Ji-ahs best friend from school and is currently heavily pregnant.
  • Lee Han-seo [ko] as Jo Dong-hyun (8 years old). Jin-bae and Hong-ju’s wife, Ji-ahs adorable and very perceptive niece. Also suffers with some allergies, although not as severe as human allergy.

The Bad

Screenshot 2019-07-28 at 18.58.04Son Byong-ho as Hwang Do-won

President of KM financial, the company Min-Kyu is director of. He is the father of the CEO of the company Yoo-chul, whom was also the best friend of Min-kyu growing up. in think the families all would have been close growing up. As with all dramas, he isn’t happy with what he has and inevitably wants more.

Screenshot 2019-07-28 at 18.58.10Lee Hae-young [ko] as Mr. Yoon.

KM groups maaging director. He is definitely up to something, You can tell from the get go! All I need to say. He just looks suspicious. πŸ™‚

The On the Fence

Screenshot 2019-07-28 at 18.02.23Kang Ki-young as Hwang Yoo-chul.

KM groups CEO, childhood best friend of Min-Kyu. He doesn’t look like a bad guy, and I get the feeling he doesn’t want to be part of the bad guy team, but you never know in a Kdrama, they can surprise you. You will have to watch to find out. Surprisingly, he is a second male lead so will he get the girl??

Screenshot 2019-07-28 at 18.58.38Lee Byung-joon as Ye Sung-tae.

Founder of the KM group. Father to Re-il, Min-Kyu’s childhood friend, crush and first love. He looks like he could be a bad guy, but seems to get along with Min-Kyu from the beginning.

Screenshot 2019-07-28 at 18.02.27Hwang Seung-eon as Ye Ri-el.

Re-il is the second leading lady. She is Min-kyus first love, childhood friend and crush and was best friends with both Min-Kyu and Yoo-chul growing up. Second leading ladies often get brushed with the scary, angry, jealous characteristics, but I don’t want to believe she is like this. Again, you will have to watch it to find out. She doesn’t look bad, but as with everything, you never know.

In the end.

Don’t worry I am not about to spoil the ending for you. I think this series is well worth a watch even if you’re not into k-dramas as its a really lovely storyline. It takes a little to accept the robot side of things, and to dispel reality for a bit and accept that anyone would be lonely enough to believe the decidedly human attributes Ji-ah brings to AJi-3 are in fact a robot, but if you can get past this, and accept it all. It is a truly beautiful, romantic and wonderful story. Its all about the characters for me and the chemistry they bring. All the characters in this drama bring something new and different and I absolutely loved following all their little stories, and that is why this is a good  drama. the business side of the story, doesn’t really do it for me, but its tolerable when you get to see the excitement, happiness and chemistry between the characters. Especially the two lead characters, their chemistry and relationship is truly wonderful. I love the actors playing the leads and to see them act together is beautiful.

Leading Couple
How he ever believed she was a robot though? Really?

I hope you give this drama, or any drama a go. You will probably lose sleep as it is a common side affect of getting into Kdramas, that you will inevitably try to fit whole series into one night of viewing or you will try to talk yourself into thinking you can fit two more hour ling episodes into the next half an hour and still wake up at 7am to go to work. But k-dramas are just a really enjoyable way to spend some spare time.

I am giving it 5 finger hearts because its a really cute drama and the leads make it even more compelling viewing! They are definitely one of OTP’s!

Enjoy! Drop your comments below, have you watched I’m not a Robot? what’s your thoughts? Any recommendations?

See you soon, K-Drama fans!
